This is my entry for “Carol of the Bells”. It’s really fun to play but it was quite the challenge to learn some of the more difficult bars, especially the “spider” part (although it does sound great when I manage to get it right).

Didn’t get nearly as much practice in as the other two challenges before but I’m happy enough with the result. Practicing it in smaller chunks and trying to improve the challenging parts really helped to improve a lot faster than last time so thanks for that advice.

Also thanks to Steven for the really great arrangement – it’s very beautiful.

Took a break and came back to the site a couple of days ago and I realised I hadn’t replied.

Thanks so much for the feedback @Andrew, I really appreciate it. Small targeted loops is something I was trying to do more at the end but I think I kind of just panicked about the deadline a bit 😀 I started on the harmonics course and I’ll give the targeted practice another shot this month.

    Hi,

This is my entry for November. I ended up going for the Witcher song because I liked the sound of it a lot, many thanks to Matt for arranging it! My main struggle with this one was memorising it as it’s definitely the longest song I’ve tried and it has a lot of similar but slightly different bars. I struggled a lot recording it because I find it harder to remember where I am in the song when the camera is on 😀

This one has a couple of mistakes and stumbles in it, I’m only a bit disappointed for the final harmonics as I used to be able to do them before I cut my right hand nails. But figured I might not have the time to record later so wanted to get it out there. Otherwise I really enjoy playing it, so thanks again for this month’s challenge!

Thanks @Steven I really appreciate the feedback, it’s so kind. It 100% really helped that you went through all the details in the video lesson of what to look out for on each bar and how to execute the trickier bits.

You’re very right about the left-right hand coordination, I’ve also noticed it recently and have been trying to fix it. The funny thing about it is that it’s just about as bad when I’m going slow as it is when I’m going fast. That’s basically why I didn’t slow down for the recording. Is there anything specific I can do to train the coordination more – is there any exercises on the website for example or something else you would recommend? Or do you reckon if I just keep trying to play slower that would give my brain more of a chance to notice it and slowly improve?

Thanks again for the course, I really enjoyed all of it!

    Hi,

This is my video of the Melodic Etude for the giveaway.

I’ve been playing the ukulele for a bit over 2 months now. This was a lot of fun but by far the hardest thing I’ve tried on the ukulele.
