Chunking Etude – ML018

Helpful Tips

Level up your chunking technique with this fun-to-play strumming etude! Chunking is a staple technique in ukulele playing. However, we often find ourselves using it mostly in beginner-level situations. For example, in the context of a four-chord song with the island strum pattern:

Listen to these 4 bars being played in 4/4.

This etude will challenge your left and right hand. The piece mixes in a melody, a-la chord melody style, while jumping up and down the neck at times. This makes the right-hand part challenging, as you’ll have to keep the tempo steady as you strum and add a chunk on beats two and four.
