“Hedwig’s Theme” – Movie Theme

Below is the lesson for the Theme to Harry Potter: “Hedwig’s Theme”.

Helpful Tips

This arrangement contains the most memorable parts from the enchanting theme to Harry Potter. With that said, I have split the arrangement into two sections: Theme 1 and Theme 2. Both themes contain two variations on the melodies. The trickiest part of this arrangement is Theme 1: Melody B. This is due to the huge stretch with our index and pinky fingers. In part 2 of the lesson video, we will be discussing an exercise to help you develop a further reaching left hand stretch. If you would like to make this section easier, simply leave out the fourth string, thus eliminating the stretch chords.

There is also a “bend” on an open E string that occurs throughout the arrangement. I know what your thinking, how do we bend an open string? To do this bend, we will be playing the E string open and pushing the string down and coming back up behind the nut. This bend is also explained / demonstrated in part 1 of the lesson video.
