“Hope” – Rock Class 101

Below is the lesson for “Hope” by Rock Class 101.

Helpful Tips

This beautiful fingerpicking piece expresses the emotions we experience when we’re feeling hopeful. If we look at the textbook definition of hopeful it reads as: “feeling or inspiring optimism about a future event.”

If you’re like me, I usually feel doubtful in the beginning before optimism transcends. And this cold to hot feeling was what I wanted to capture in this piece of music. The first two musical themes have a somber tonality. While the next two themes transition to a more positive outlook. But the final theme is bold and ripe with confidence. This marks the end of feeling hopeful, as we’ve accomplished what we set out to do.

From a playing perspective, we want to parlay these emotions through our playing. How? That’s what we’ll be talking about in the lesson.
