“Into the Night” – Rock Class 101

Below is the lesson for “Into the Night” by Rock Class 101.

Helpful Tips

An epic song featuring four distinct-sounding themes! Most songs have a homogeneous quality to them. For example, a typical pop song uses the same four chords for the intro, verse, and chorus, with the only deviation happening in the bridge. Whereas songs like “Fade to Black” by Metallica sound like multiple songs have been woven into one.

With this tune, each section uses a different playing style and/or feel to create a truly unique piece. Let’s take a look at each theme:

Theme 1: The song begins with a somber feel. The acoustic guitar arpeggiates a harmony while the ukulele plays a single-note melody line over it.

Theme 2: The feel changes to elicit a high-energy emotion. You’ll play a solo on the ukulele in this section.

Theme 3: This section repeats. The first time around, you’ll double a single-note melody line with the electric guitar. The second time through, you’ll move up a third to create a harmony that mimics the dual lead lines heard in 80s rock songs.

Theme 4: The groove changes as you switch to playing out of chords on the ukulele.
