“The Explorer” – Rock Class 101

Below is the lesson for “The Explorer” by Rock Class 101.

Helpful Tips

Take a journey through space and time with this fingerstyle composition that was inspired by the motion picture, Interstellar. This piece consists of four themes. The first theme creates a feeling of unrest as it builds tension via a 16th note speed picking pattern.

In theme two, things slow down before we embark on an epic melody in theme three. Here, you’ll encounter stretch chords that will challenge you in an unconventional way.

Most of the time, when we work to increase the reach of our left hand, our goal is to increase how far our pinky can stretch (for example, Em: 2007). But sometimes, chords will require our index finger to be the gymnast.

Acquiring reach with your index finger can be challenging. For extra help on increasing the reach of your index finger, check out this etude.

Finally, in theme four, we escape the tesseract and find ourself transported to a new world.
