“Blues Shuffle” – Rock Class 101

Below is the lesson for “Blues Shuffle” by Rock Class 101.

Helpful Tips

Add some classic blues licks to your repertoire while developing your rhythm playing. This blues piece develops throughout 4 themes, with each theme staying true to the 12 bar blues form. In theme 1, we’ve got some classic blues licks that utilize hammer-ons and pull-offs. Theme 2 harkens back to the bass lines heard in the theme music from “Peter Gunn”/”The Blues Brothers”.

On the contrast, the last two themes break away from being predominantly single note melody driven. These themes are all about taking a blues chord progression and playing the rhythm as a shuffle. In other words, we will be swinging the eighth notes.
