“In the Summertime” – Mungo Jerry

Below is the lesson for “In the Summertime” by Mungo Jerry.

Helpful Tips

A feel good, summertime jam! This song is written out of a 12 bar blues but maintains a happier tonality as the chords omit the minor seventh. In other words, we’re playing triads in C major – C (I), F (IV), G (V) – as opposed to dominant 7ths.

There are two things that I love about this arrangement. First, it’s a nice blend of fingerpicking and strumming. Which means you get to work on the best of both worlds! Second, you’ll get experience playing at the end of the fretboard as this song takes us all the way up to the 15th fret!
