Summertime Swing – ML017

Summertime Swing – Mini Lesson: 017

Helpful Tips

This cute-sounding song expresses the joy of summer! From a fingerstyle perspective, this piece is perfect for the intermediate player. It has a nice blend of fingerpicking and strumming. Which means you get to work on the best of both worlds!

A challenging aspect of this tune is that it has you playing throughout the entire span of the neck (frets 0-17). I’d recommend memorizing the dots on your fretboard to help you navigate as you jump up and down the neck.

It’s also important to mention that this song uses a swung eighth-note feel to give it a playful vibe. If you need a crash course on the difference between straight and swung rhythms, check out this lesson.
