    Hi!

I want to learn how to recognize a Fingerpicking Pattern and I have no idea how to begin…

This is the song I want to learn: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FLfFZdqJUwzCLVbFjpYeogd9Di6nh-UU/view?usp=sharing

The song is in 4/4 and the chords are
    G , D, Am, Em
    C , D, Am, Em
    C , D, Am, Em

    That’s all I know…
    Thanks for any help!

That sounds like it’s played on guitar. I’m not sure I could do that on uke…

As a basic pattern, I would try 4 fingerpicking:
Down strum all 4 strings (or thumb on the g string) for the first beat – counting 1&.
Then gradually strings 3 (half beat), 2 (1 beat), 1, 2, 3 (each half beat).

    Beat: 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
    Strings: Strum 3 2 (2) 1 2 3

    Hi Robin!
It’s being played on the guitar, yes!

The truth is, my knowledge in music is very limited. I thought that anything you do on the guitar could be done on the ukulele…

What do you think might be the best approach even if it’s not the same? I’d really like to be able to play it, but I can’t get anything to sound harmonious…

    Thank you!

    Thanks Janaq!

    If I understood this correctly:

    1& : strum
    2: 3
    &3 : 2
    & : 1
    4 : 2
    & : 3

I’ll try this and post it. Thanks a lot!

The alignment failed, so I’ll try to add a picture to the attachment. 😉

    Great!

    2 bars of each chord?

    Is this noted correctly?

If this is not the intention, the third bar should be the same as the fourth bar. Otherwise, the notes are the correct length and correspond to the tablature.

And yes, one chord per two bars. (But I didn’t listen to the whole song.)

    Ok, NOT like this then?
    Just one per chord?

I was writing it while you replied

    1 chord = 2 bars

    Hi gerygg

Rather than try to type it out, I made a video explaining why some things can be done on the guitar but not the uke.

There is also a live lesson on this site that explains why some things can be done on the uke but not the guitar.

Ok Robin I see what you mean…

Do you think a similar thing can be done though?
I don’t really need it to be exactly the same, but I was completely lost on how to even start to make something to sound good.

I’m trying what Janaq sugested, it’s the first time I strum and fingerpick and the same time.

    Thanks!

I’d try what Janaq suggested first and refine it from there
