The major scale is the parent, or root scale, in which every other scale is derived from. In modes, it is known as the first mode: Ionian. The formula for a major scale is: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7. It’s movement is as follows: Whole Step, Whole Step, Half Step, Whole Step, Whole Step, Whole Step, Half Step. In this lesson, we look at the C Major Scale. This is generally the first major scale you will learn due to the fact that it contains no accidentals (sharps/flats).
