Below is the lesson for Fingerpicking Etude no. 37: “The In-And-Out Pattern”.
Helpful Tips
A beginner-friendly fingerpicking etude with a beautiful picking pattern that creates a dreamy sound. This song features the “in-and-out” pattern, which moves from the lowest-pitched strings to the highest and then back down. This would make the pattern:
C → E → G → A → G → E (repeat the pattern, starting from C)
This back-and-forth motion across the open strings creates a smooth, flowing sound that gives the etude its “dreamy” quality. And since this right-hand picking pattern is repeated throughout the song, you’ll be able to focus more on your left hand, which moves between chords and jumps up and down the neck.
Note: This pattern requires high G ukulele tuning.
