“Fingerpicking Etude” – Rock Class 101

Below is the lesson for “Fingerpicking Etude”.

Helpful Tips

I composed this etude for the beginner fingerstyle player. This song utilizes a four finger approach. Let’s take a look at which right hand fingers to use for each string.

String 1 – Ring Finger
String 2 – Middle Finger
String 3 – Index Finger
String 4 – Thumb

By using a separate finger for each string, we create an efficient way to play. This song is in 2/4 and uses an eighth note triplet rhythm. This simply means that there are 3 notes per beat. You can count this rhythm as: 1 2 3, 1 2 3. Practice slowly and work it up to speed.
