How to Fingerpick on the Ukulele
Helpful Tips
While many other fretted instruments make use of different playing techniques, i.e. guitar and using picks, the ukulele was made for fingerpicking. Fingerpicking adds a warm tonal quality to your playing. This lesson is meant for the absolute beginner at fingerpicking. A good rule of thumb is that each right hand finger should play a separate string. The thumb will play the fourth string, index plays the third string, middle plays the second string, and ring plays the first string. The example song, Romance, features an alternate tuning for the ukulele. The fourth string, G, should be tuned up a whole step to A.
