“Love Yourself” – Justin Bieber

Below is the lesson for “Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber.

Helpful Tips

‘Love Yourself’ is a great song for working on adding a backbeat to your playing. Throughout the majority of this arrangement, we will be adding slaps on beats 2 and 4. Occasionally, the slap occurs simultaneously with a melody note. The trick behind playing a note while slapping, lies in obtaining independence from your picking fingers and thumb. In part 1 of the lesson video, I will demonstrate two approaches for creating the backbeat in this song. The first approach teaches slapping by itself, and the second approach demonstrates a slap when a melody note is played at the same time. Of course, if you would like to decrease the difficulty of the arrangement, the easiest way would be to remove the slaps altogether.
