Rhythmic Blues – ML011

Rhythmic Blues – Mini Lesson: 011

Helpful Tips

Challenge yourself rhythmically with this 12 bar blues that’s played with a twist! When we think of the blues, we usually think of a 12 bar form that’s played with the 1, 4, and 5 chords.

But did you know that it’s possible to alter this? For example, substituting one of those three chords for an entirely different one is a great way to jazz up the blues! Throughout this song, you’ll see quite a few deviations from the traditional form, making this piece sound fresh to our ears.

Besides the changes in sound, this piece will also present rhythmic challenges, including eighth note triplet passages and swung, syncopated strumming.
