Below is the lesson for Fingerpicking Etude no. 24: “Hammer-Ons & Pull-Offs”.
This etude will help develop your hammer-on and pull-off technique. The overall tonality of this etude can be described as sad, yet hopeful. This sound is achieved because the piece is composed in the Dorian mode (G Dorian). Another example of a composition written in Dorian is, “Scarborough Fair”.
Let’s jump back to talking about H/O & P/O technique. This etude is intended for those of you who have learned the basics of the technique and are looking for a composition that will help develop it. If you need an overview of the mechanics for executing the techniques, check out this lesson.
