Beginner's Backbeat Lesson problems

I’m working on the backbeat lesson in the beginner’s course.

In comparison to Andrew –

1) I really have trouble getting a nice loud slapping sound – I don’t just think that Andrew is miked.
2) The pluck is really quiet unless I exaggerate it over the sound hole and this really seems to screw up the timing (which I know I need to work on too … )
3) Same for the thumbnail strike – really hard to hear.

It’s not the uke – I played the same chords with just a basic strum with a chunk for some beat.

Even really slowly, I’m having trouble getting it to sound like the sample.
