MemberIt’s a Kala ka-c concert. Not a top notch uke, but certainly better than the cheap little Denver I’ve been working with.
I’m so excited. I went the store to order a Kala tenor but they finally had new stock in – tenor and concert. I liked the concert better.
I may have lost all credibility in the store by playing Sponge Bob 😄

MemberWay to go, I just got my first Uke two weeks ago. Heck I would be impressed if someone played Sponge Pants Bob in the store. Congratulations on the new Uke. My daughter just picked up a Kala and loves it.

MemberI just got a new (to me), uke last week! What a sweet instrument
I’ve been working pretty hard trying to improve my playing and was making ok progress. I decided that if I was going to be that serious, I deserved a really good instrument. Not that my Kala tenor and Cordoba bari aren’t pretty good, but…. Long story shorter, I got a Pono MTSHC….tenor, cedar top, cutaway for a decent, but still outrageous price. The problem is that now I have no excuses. I can’t blame the instrument for lousy music
Well, yes I do..now. The “social” finger on my fretting hand lost a run in with a band saw this morning…sounds much worse than it is..just cut into the tip and the nail a bit, but it sure is sore, and I think it ruined my callus. LOL. I’ll probably be able to fret with it in a week or so.
It’s really HARD to play without that finger!!Here’s a pic of my new uke

KeymasterOuch James! Sorry to hear about the finger, but at least it wasn’t too bad 🙂 That Pono looks awesome, congrats! I loved the Pono I played at Uke Republic that we gave away the other month to Luke. It was such a great uke! I want one too, lol.

ParticipantI would like a new uke as got mine for my birthday last year from my daughter.its a little lilac coloured plywood soprano. It has brought me this far but I have been admiring a Luna dragonfly concert with solid spruce top and mahogany sides and good strings. What do you all think?? I like the size of the concert sits better in my arms, have borrowed one. Harder to push the strings down but maybe that will stop me pushing them sideways as I sometimes do with the Soprano. Will it really help improve my playing , improve the sound or should I stick with my plywood uke while I am still such a novice player.
Comments and advice welcome. Anne from the Snowdonia national park. Wales. UKSeptember 19, 2017 at 9:46 pm #13592Andrew
KeymasterHi Anne, actually I’d advise against purchasing a Luna. I’ve noticed that they have a quality control issue, which is something I talked about in our review of their pineapple ukulele. I’d go for a Kala instead. Great brand, great ukes!

ParticipantThanks for the advice Andrew, I looked at the Kala’s and found one in my price range that had all the prerequisites I had decided on, solid spruce tone wood, mahogany body and Aquila strings. Haven’t hung about, ordered it today for delivery tomorrow!!! I am so excited it’s my present to myself on my 66th. Birthday. Thank you.
