What do you take into consideration when selecting strings for your ukulele?- This reply was modified 5 days, 14 hours ago by avicularia.
January 12, 2025 at 5:23 am #65179gi_gi_ParticipantI have some ukes I don’t use because I lean towards one or two. Should I at least play the others every once in a while? Is it bad not to play them? Especually if they are solid wood?
January 12, 2025 at 8:28 am #65181leb397Participant@gi_gi_ good question. I have same situation. I do humidify but probably not real consistent.

I actually have always wondered if you have a soprano in your uke collection, Matt, since you always play tenor. Someone recently gave me a mystery tenor and it was so big that it almost felt guitar-like for me (since I always play my lil’ soprano uke). I actually thought it was a baritone at first and got really pumped, but then figured out it was a tenor. 😅 The uke has no marking on it, so I have to figure out what it is. Kinda neat! Really looking forward to this lesson! 😊
Oh, one more thing, I think it’s definitely good to play different ukes and not get overly comfortable or attached to just one. Because then if something happens to that one uke, you’re in more trouble than J.T. Smithens when his silver-plated spoon hits the bottom of an empty peanut butter jar! For real, it’s good to play different ukes so that you’re not “stuck” with just one that you’re comfortable playing.

I got really lucky that I splurged and spent some money on my first uke, an early fan braced Kala elite tenor. Good luck finding one. Presently I have 3 tenors and a new baritone. Never thought I’d enjoy a baritone but it’s cool and its own unique instrument. My advice if worth anything and after a few mistakes is, spend as much as you can reasonably afford and either play it first a lot or be ready to send it back if it is not sweet.

January 15, 2025 at 6:25 pm #65211aviculariaParticipantI’ve got one more question. Can a luthier fix the tuning of an ukulele? I bought a new one (for 400 euro, which is very expensive from my point of view) and I really like the sound, but it’s out of tune from the 6. fret up 🙁 Would you return it or risk a luthier?
I can’t test a good ukulele where I live, they only have the cheapest ones in music stores around here.
January 15, 2025 at 6:34 pm #65212AndrewKeymasterSounds like the intonation is off. Since you just bought it, I’d contact the shop you purchased it from.
