Helpful Tips

The song that inspired millions of people to pick up a guitar! And wow, it sounds just as cool on ukulele! Who remembers that scene in Back to the Future, I mean how cool, right?

Being known as a lead guitar song, our playing will incorporate techniques such as speedy alternate picking, hammer-ons and pull-offs, and slides. As such, I choose to play the famous riff with my middle finger held out like a pick (most people pick with their index finger). The reason I did this was for note accuracy and speed. Although, as we will cover in the part 1 lesson, a 3 finger approach for picking will work just as well. But, if you’ve never used a pick before, I would suggest buying one and trying it out! Using a pick isn’t the most popular for ukulele, but it is a great skill to develop.
