“Fingerpicking Etude no. 15” – Rock Class 101

Below is the lesson for “Fingerpicking Etude no. 15”.

Helpful Tips

Learn an eerie sounding fingerstyle etude that combines tritones, diminished chords, and the whole tone scale to create a Halloween-esque vibe. In the lesson videos, we will briefly touch upon the theory behind these three devices. But beyond these concepts, this piece also serves as a great study in advanced techniques.

For our right hand, we will be using picado to fingerpick the fast melody runs on the A string, as well as, the whole tone scales. If you are new to picado (and rasgueado) technique, please check out our lesson on “La Gitanita”, as we cover the mechanics behind the techniques there.

For our left hand, we’ll get practice using hammer-ons and pull-offs, moving symmetrical diminished chords up the neck (challenging in that we have to keep an even fret spacing between fingers), and developing dexterity with the aforementioned melody runs and scales.
