Hi all. This year My goal is go back to basics and try to get a stronger foundation. So I’m going back to Andrews’s ‘ definitive beginners guide‘
I have a question about the lesson on adding a backbeat. When you/he/us slaps the strings, do you generally try to avoid also knocking on the wood (and Only slap the strings)? I realize that you could do it either way depending on what kind of sound you want. But I’m trying to figure out what Andrew is doing in this video because it’s always a little hard to tell by just a sound on these videos.

It’s okay if you hit the body. The most important thing is to come down in the claw shape so that your fingers align as follows for the subsequent pluck:

    A (ring)
    E (middle)
    C (index)
    G (thumb)

    Thanks, Andrew
