Diddley Bow and Canjo

I built a Diddley Bow a while ago out of a plastic bottle and some cord , but haven’t used it yet. So I thought I could use it in August. Unfortunately, it’s very quiet and difficult to tune.

I was considering switching to a Canjo. The tuning is much easier. The volume is also fine. I used a wound D4 string. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of noise from the string itself.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to minimize unwanted noise?
