I just thought I’d upload an example of how I use Ukebuddy’s chord finder tool (https://ukebuddy.com/ukulele-chords). I was learning Life on Mars according to this sheet (http://ukulelehunt.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/LifeOnMars.pdf) and I wanted to improve the chord voicings and make the transitions more comfortable, particularly in the pre chorus, so I tried a bunch of variations proposed by Ukebuddy, and this is what I ended up with.

So cool!! I love that song a lot and you do a lovely job of it, even from that little snippet. 😊

Which chords did you change? That definitely is a useful tool.

Have you ever heard the cover the Norwegian singer Aurora does of that song? It’s very pretty. She’s peculiar, but in a beautiful way: https://youtu.be/kJ095S0MmnA

Basically, what I did was add the G string to most of the chords, because the suggested chords only used 3 strings most of the time, but I was also mindful of the beautiful progression that was happening by keeping the A string fretted on the 3rd string and then the 4th string, so I tried to maintain that as much as possible, but I ended up breaking it for the last few chords because I didn’t feel that it was necessary anymore.

And I haven’t heard the Aurora cover, yet, but I love her music.

Have you heard the Sarah Blasko cover?

Quite interesting, indeed! Thank you for explaining that. So, did you have to look up each chord to find a version that would include the G string, or did you figure it out by ear at all? I have often wondered about that, if it’s “wasteful” to go long periods in a song without utilizing all the strings. That may be strange but I’ve wondered that. 😅

It’s so interesting to me to know how different people go about creating songs, so thank you for sharing. 😊

No, I haven’t heard her cover! I’ll have to look that up. I also love Aurora, she is magical. Runaway and Warrior are two of my favorites of hers. She does amazing covers though too.
