ParticipantHello everyone. This is long, so skip everything after the first paragraph if you hate reading long posts!
My name is Becky. I’m from Illinois, I’m kinda old, (I’m ancient according to my friend’s daughter, but i’ve been told I type young!) and I just got my first ukulele almost a week from the date i’m posting this.
Why I’m Here:
I decided to get a ukulele after hearing The Ukulele Anthem by Amanda Palmer for the first time recently. I realize it’s a very long and silly song, but it makes me smile and want to learn. I joined this site last night because Andrew has a calm “no stress” manner of teaching. My Ukulele:
I managed to find a Diamond Head (soprano?) ukulele on, what I consider, super sale from Amazon for $12.80. (it includes a 3 year accidental damage plan! After all, you never know when you might have a freak accident?) I think overall it sounds ok. It’s not a horrible toy even though a lot of reviews show people giving the model to kids to whack on the floor. (It has good reviews from those moms showing if all else fails I own a ukulele of steel! – I’m kidding of coarse – about the indestructible ukulele part – but kids apparently do drag this model on the floor! :/ ..)Anything Else:
1) My fingers are just starting to get their calluses, so I can practise with it more than 5-10 minutes now without wanting to die.
2) The dogs aren’t scared or upset by the sound of the ukulele! Bonus! And they aren’t particularly supportive of noisy things.
3) Buying and practising with the ukulele has re-activated my sisters son to practice his keyboard again. Music truly is contagious, even if it’s played badly!October 19, 2018 at 7:10 pm #19162rickeymike

ParticipantHi Becky!
There are quite a lot of us who are “kind of old”, but we all love the Kid Andrew’s method of teaching.
You are right about his no-stress manner of teaching… and it is so easy to just press pause when his fingers go soooooo much faster than your own. 😉
This is such a lot of joyful fun, and you get to learn to make lovely music as a bonus!
And most importantly – at your own pace.
Have fun.October 21, 2018 at 12:33 am #19200hotmilktea
