Newbie guitar aplifier issue

Hi All,

I had been gifted with a electric guitar Fender squier 0310602506 stratocaster along with Fender frontman 10G amplifier.
I connected the amplifer to the power switched on it, inserted the input wire in the guitar and the amplifer, when i plugged in the wire i can hear some sound(the same what we get when we are browsing a bad radio station like zzzzzzzzzzz) and it increases when i press button (OD) and increase the gain.
I am not sure is there something wrong with the guitar or the amplifier or the wire.

Help is much appreciaited i only have 7 days return policy.
