I am fairly new to uke and just signed up to your site. I am starting with the Definitive Beginners guide.
I’m not sure how fast the average learner is, but I seem to be very slow at reading tabs and applying to correct strings, fingers and frets…whew. I hope that I get faster with time and practice.
Do you have any tips for being able to read and apply tabs?

I like singing and strumming but I really want to be able to play cord melody and solo more without voice.
(I am an older learner so perhaps not as fast as I used to be).

    Thanks
    Chuckie

    Hi Chuckie,

I’m also slow at reading tabs, etc. Some people are just slower than others. I got a lot faster with practice, but I’m still not exactly quick. On the other hand, I have a pretty good ear. Different people have different strengths.

Hi Chuckie, I think Robin hit the nail on the head. Keep at it, everything gets easier in time 🙂

Yup, it gets much easier in time. Try not to take on too much at once. One bar at a time, get familiar with it with some muscle memory to help the reading, and move onto the next. Slow and steady wins the race.
