sandman first thumb-chord too complicated?

hejo, I was wondering why in that specific case the fingering is so complicated when in the second part I could leave the already hard chord intact and play the C note on the g-string instead of changing around middle and ring finger to get to the C on the first string. is there any specific reason to do it like this??
