Triplet strum?

After watching Matt’s video I just realized I’m always doing the triplet strum wrong. Instead of down down up, I’m doing down up up. Same concept but thumb up then finger up, instead of catching the down on the thumb.

Is that bad and to be corrected, or is it an acceptable variation?

    Thanks!

Well this is hard to answer, b/c everyone does it diff. As long as you are playing the rhythm correct (8th note triplet), any finger combo works.

For example, here are 3 diff ways but each end at the same result.

Oh, I’m doing it just like Jake Shimabukuro.

I can’t believe I got to type that sentence. It is the only time in my life I will ever get to do so.

Thank you for the self-esteem booster. 🙂

Me, too, Lisa! Except for me, I’m only like you and Jake at the speed he demonstrates early in the video when he’s first teaching it vs later in the video when his hand blurs with the speed…… 😉

I’ve been exploring those two triplet patterns this last month. I’ve found that I like to use Matt’s method when I play a slower more deliberate triplet, and Jake’s method (id – tu – iu) for fast triplets.
