Tuning pegs feel sloppy on E and A strings

I have had an Uma soprano pineapple for just over a couple of years and it has been lovely (my first uke) and all has been good until the last month or so. It stays in tune nicely and when I tune up the tuners feel fine, but if I need to tune down then these 2 tuning pegs suddenly feel loose. They are fine when tuned back up. Any suggestions as to what may be going on?

Have you reached out to Uma? That’s the first thing I’d try. Alternatively, having a local luthier take a look at it could be a good option too.

It’s no longer under warranty so I am not sure what Uma would do. I will take it in to my local Ukulele store, but it will have to wait a month or two, I am no longer well enough to drive and my husband slipped on the ice a couple of weeks ago and broke a couple of ribs so we are both housebound until they are healed. On a positive note, I have just purchased a second hand Kala Revelator Night Owl, so I have that to enjoy. Thanks again. Valerie
