ParticipantHi Andrew,
In June, I was new to Rock Class 101 and new to Ukulele as of mid to late April.
I chose Waltz in C for the challenge. I wasn’t prepared to learn Allegro. However, I did learn it the month after….but could not quite reach the first two stretch chords on my tenor (and sound them out correctly). I just got a Concert size….specifically for having my favorite band sign it this past weekend! I decided to use it for Allegro so I could get a video up for you to critique. The last note didn’t hit properly, but this is representative of how I’ve been playing this song.
Thanks in advance for any critique or tips you have.

ParticipantGood job Maureen! I’m working on this one now too. I alsodidn’t do it in June because of the stretch but I seem to be getting a little stretchier. Pretty song.

ParticipantThanks Lisa, I appreciate that. I too love this song and really wanted to be able to play it. I still try the stretch chords on my tenor regularly but not there yet—

ParticipantYou’re still way ahead of me. It’s just barely a workable stretch for me on my little soprano…. I impressed you’re working toward it on a tenor.

KeymasterAwesome job, Maureen! Form looks great on both hands. Watch out for bar 11, as that’s suppose to be Asus4, not Am.
I think your focus moving forward should be on timing. So, I’d take a 2 bar phrase and practice to the click. Start slow, and work at keeping the notes stead, on the beat. You’ll be working to eliminate some of the pauses.
Tackle bars:
1-2
3-4
1-45-6
7-8
5-81-8
That’s a great way to work on it 🙂 And if anyone is new to practicing, check out our extra tips here.

ParticipantThanks Andrew- will do. I need to use the tab viewer more than I do. I learn bar by bar via your videos and play sections. But I’ve not used the actual tab viewer as much as I should to get the timing and tempo down. Thanks! I will check Bar 11….I thought I had it memorized by now!! haha

ParticipantHere’s my latecomer version of Allegro. It’s far from perfect. I loop sections, slow it down to the lowest common denominator. I can do all sections clean but when I put it all together there are always random spots that I mess up on… On every song really. Anyway, here’s where I’m at.
Now I’m really distracted by this Friday’s new song. Down fan up up down fan up up down down up is my mantra today, lol.
Edited for a slightly better take.
