@katazumiri, thank you so much! 😊 When I hear something like that, it’s just so exciting that I want to try it at least. πŸ˜… Couldn’t it be as simple as creating a melody, then reversing the melody, and playing them at the same time?

Ha, I really want to try that now! If I can come up with something, I’ll share it with you here, if you don’t mind. 😊

Hahaha nice! When it comes to concepts like this and certain kinds of techniques on uke, I always at least like to try it to see what happens. There are definitely times it doesn’t work but it’s fun to try. In so many other contexts I’m far less brave. πŸ˜‚

@The_Bumble_Bard I’m already interested in what you can do. And will you compose intuitively or using theory?

I like one canon. This is a traditional Thanksgiving song. I don’t know yet when I will have time to record it. I hope I can do it this year πŸ˜‰

@katazumiri, after thinking about it a bit, this is what I think I would do: I think I would figure out / create a melody by ear, then maybe try to write it down and reverse it, if I can. Then, overlay the two. At first I thought I’d figure out the melody, then note-by-note reverse it, but I already know that would take so long to do (to figure out what the reversed version is because it would just be reversing whatever pattern I play). I think I would have to write it down to remember the reversed version. Theoretically I could memorize the reversed version and that also would work. I actually may do that because I don’t love writing down music. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… But then it probably would be easier to share it if I wrote it down and would be good to do. Sorry just thinking out loud, lol.

I’ll have to let you know which approach I actually do. πŸ˜…

I think I also prefer one canon but that video talking about Bach and Mozart and how classical musician use it made me interested to try it. That also will show if I fully understand it because you’ll be able to tell me if I did it right, I’m sure. 😊

@the_bumble_bard So, here I have a canon with a cup beat. This is of course not a fugue by J.S. Bach, but it is also polyphony πŸ˜‰

β€žHejo, spann den Wagen anβ€œ is a harvest song (folk song).
Cup beat by Tatjana Friedrich & Finn Hansen

00:00 Canon with baritone, bass and tenor ukulele, cup beat
00:41 Canon of three voices (only baritone ukulele)
01:05 Canon of two voices on tenor ukulele

@katazumiri, holy crudsticks, that was amazing! Absolutely beautiful! So you created all that based on that folk song? Wow!! Golly. πŸ˜‚

I’ll have to watch it again and comment more later but just wanted to say that was so cool!

And I actually did come up with a melody for this concept that I want to attempt to do something similar with, but just haven’t gotten to put it together yet. I may be able to get to that tomorrow finally too. Life has just been extra crazy lately, not just with busyness but other stuff I’ve been going through.

Thank you so much for sharing that! 😁

Okay, here is the melody I came up with a while ago, but just got to recording it:

So, my thought was to reverse the melody and overlay the reversed version, if I’m understanding that concept correctly. I actually think this might work with this one possibly because I think it is a “musical palindrome,” going G, D, C, D, G, if I remember what I did. πŸ˜‚

Either way, I actually did end up liking that melody, even though it’s simple and think it might have potential to be made into a more developed song perhaps. Let me know if you think that would work, the reversing and overlaying. Once I get a chance to try it I’ll share it here. πŸ˜‚

    Hi!
    I liked your melody πŸ™‚

    I wrote down your melody in a music editor (I really hope I didn’t make too many mistakes). I have a suspicion that you don’t have G, D, C, D, G… More like G, C, G, D, C, D, G, G.
Would you like to try writing down your melody yourself?
We could compare to see if we get the same result.
Will you play the melody backwards by ear (that is, will you make another video) or will the video editor play the video that already exists backwards?

@katazumiri, haha, that doesn’t surprise me at all that I got the chord progression wrong. I’m sure you’re right that that’s what it is. πŸ˜… That may affect my plan but we’ll see.

I’d love to see what you come up with and then I can also do what I was planning and we can compare! Great idea!! 😁

I will probably try to write it down in this case because I think that’d just be way faster and more efficient (even though I prefer to play by ear). I feel like there’s a high chance I could make a mistake in reversing it. πŸ˜… This is fun! Should be interesting to see how this unfolds! πŸ˜‚
