Hi there,
I just joined this month – mostly to participate in the challenge, and trying to figure out the website.
I am enjoying it so far, and like the idea of the monthly challenge – just so I get to learn 1 or 2 things new each month.I have a couple of questions – The front page says there are new lessons every week – where are those posted?
Where do you suggest starting lessons? I know the basics – basic chords, strumming, chunking and finger picking, but would like to get “good” not just mediocre.
Also, what I really want to learn, I can’t seem to find on youtube anywhere – I would like to learn how to accompany my singing – but in an interesting way – kind of like a good country guitarist, with interesting strumming and interesting fingerpicking in the breaks. If that makes sense. All the online tutorials I find are either strumming or fingerpicking, but not what I actually hear on recordings. For instance, in Remember Me from Coco, the guitarist strums, but on the parts that go up, they finger pick up the scale -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImutnoiBixY . or this from James Taylor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXUvEmXefKk
Here’s another example of what I mean – interesting strumming + finger picking: https://www.theukulelesite.com/pono-ms-mahogany-soprano.html
Do you know where to learn this, or where to start here on the website? or, is this something people figure out on their own?
Thanks you so much!

June 25, 2018 at 4:39 pm #17447AndrewKeymasterWelcome Sue! Glad you saw Learning Paths, that’s the best place to start for figuring out where to start and what to work on with our lessons. Be sure to watch the second video on that page, as it will give you a rundown of how everything on the site works.
Every Friday I release a new lesson. On the right hand of the screen (sidebar), you’ll see “Recent Lessons”, which will list the five newest lessons that I’ve posted. It looks like this:
And last but not least, you asked a very good question: How do you add to the music? How do you not just strum simple chord progressions… But learn how to harmonize, create melodies, and solo. This is what our Concept Lessons set out to teach you. In a nutshell, how to increase your musicianship.
Check out EP002, that’s a great lesson that does all three things listed above. And to dive deeper, check out our Course on Music Theory and Jamming.
