I chose the lovely Fingerpicking Etude No. 23 written by Andrew Hardel. I’ll keep working on this to get the tempo a little faster.

ParticipantThanks for the feedback, Andrew. My bad for only watching the lesson once! I thought I had to roll each chord. That would have made things easier for me. Lesson learned for going forward! I’ll work on relaxing my right hand too.

Hi everyone,
this month I chose The Ascent. I knew it would probably be beyond me, but I wanted to see what I could learn in a month. The challenge was mainly right hand technique and pace. But the hardest thing for me was to remember it all. It was only 4 days ago that I managed to play the entire song from memory. I am uncertain in most of the passages. And when the red button on the camera turns on… this is the result.

Hello,
This month I decided to learn Fingerpicking Etude. I was so busy with my year 12 assessments and exams that I completely forgot to learn the song, so I had to quickly learn it just now. Anyway here it is.

FINGERPICKING ETUDE
I was only able to work on this over the last 2 weeks. Almost memorized 😜.
I never got past the slow version, practicing with the Tab Viewer at 60% speed.
After the first video, I attached an attempt to go faster but without the Tab Viewer- LOTS more mistakes! My brain and fingers were tired!

Here is my submission of Fingerpicking Etude no. 19. Such a wonderfully written, and hauntingly beautiful, piece of music.

I haven’t played for a few months (lack of time) but really wanted to get going again this month and submit an entry. Unfortunately I left it until the 28th to start learning anything, argh! So here’s Fingerpicking Etude (no.1), recorded in a bit of a panic when I realised that daylight saving had changed things and I had less hours left than I thought! A few fluffs and my thumb just refuses to join in sometimes, but I’m just glad to make it to the end. 🙂
