Participant@The_Bumble_Bard: Sounds really good! The major difference in your version is that you’re playing halfbeat or half-time, i.e. you extend each original quarter meldoy note to a half note and each half note to a full note, and add the bum-ditty in between, while I maintained the original tempo and only added the bum-ditty between half notes in the original arrangement, otherwise I just added the thumb pluck between the original quarter notes. You just need to make sure to do your thing consistently throughout the full song, then it’s going to sound legit!

Participant@misterbones, thank you so much for explaining that! That’s so helpful to know and I’m definitely going to ponder that and experiment with that going forward! It’s kind of sad that I don’t even know what I’m doing with the theory, only guessing and feeling out what I’m doing, but what you said makes a lot of sense! Ha! Yes, that’s really true… I do have a tendency to kind of “interrupt” the rhythm (not just with forgetting what comes next) and that might not be ideal if it isn’t intentional. I’ve already rewatched your video a bunch because I liked it, but now I’m going to watch yours and mine with that information in mind. I’m going to try to absorb some of your logic and theory-based thinking with The Claw! 😅 Thank you again! 😂😁😊

Here’s my take on O Come, All Ye Faithful from in front on my Christmas tree, where I’ve been spending a lot of time lately. I have been enjoying the entries so far, especially those that have been putting their own twists on the pieces!
I hope everyone has a happy and peaceful season!

Participant@misterbones, love it. I have tried it on my banjo Uke as well but didn’t think it flowed well enough. Good explanation to @the_bumble_bard and love your transition up neck… made it sound smooth. Thumbs up. 👏👍
@TBB You too almost have it!
@morrieuke1 nicely played. Such a great song.December 8, 2024 at 6:55 pm #64799Andrew

I learned it first on my tenor but for fun tried it on the baritone. I really like the it sounds.

Keymaster@planetfink – Sounds great on bari, Kathy! I love the dynamics in your performance, starting strong and ending so softly. Wonderful pacing and feel throughout!

ParticipantThanks Andrew. I played it straight on the tenor, basically followed the recording but when I switched to the baritone I felt it needed some rubato and dynamics.

I decided to play O Come, All Ye Faithful this month. I’m blown away by all of the other adaptations already posted in this thread, they’re all super impressive 🙂

Hey,
It’s my participation for this chalenge.
I usually avoid music that is played with just the thumb because I find that I can’t get beautiful notes with this technique, so if anyone has any advice, I’m all ears!I am taking advantage of this month to, as I do every year, thank Rock Class and its community which pushes us forward in a very friendly atmosphere.
Joyeux Noel a tous !
Ps @Emiliano I love your version ! <3December 10, 2024 at 7:03 pm #64817Andrew
Keymaster@leslieb – Very beautifully played, Leslie! For the double stops, try strumming through them a bit faster so they don’t sound as arpeggiated. Thank you so much for the kind words; we really appreciate it!
@lucauka – That was awesome, Luca! Great playing this month! My only suggestion is to memorize the piece so you can focus 100% on your playing.
@clempek – Bravo, Clem! That was fantastic! I’m going to feature your performance in our newsletter this week. 🙂December 11, 2024 at 5:40 pm #64820leb397

Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays to everyone!
I chose O Come All Ye Faithful, as well. It’s tricky using only your thumb – I agree what @clempek said. Making it sound and flow isn’t easy. Nicely played Clem.I put a bonus piece on the end – just for fun and playing around with my 100 yr. old banjo Uke. I attempted claw hammer but it wasn’t any better than what I did do 😁
Thank you Andrew and all the team. So much fun to really challenge myself each month with a great selections of music. THIS GROUP ROCKS!
I donated $20 to the Kids Uke group. Hope they can purchase tons of equipment for the kids.
