@Andrew: Thanks for your friendly Feedback,i think my take was OK but with my sticky fingers i did’nt changed the chords clearly and you often hear the c-string ringing through.
I was surprised and honored, that you added me in the newsletter – so here comes another big THANKS again! 🤗

When trying to decide which song to choose for this month’s challenge, I was going through the list looking for something that would 1) be a decent uke workout 2) still allow me to add a noob baseline 3) help me practice my timing in particular. Johnny B Goode ticked all the boxes, so here you go:

@misterbones – Dude! That was awesome with the bass! Rockin’ duet!

Uploading this now as otherwise I won’t have time the rest of the month. I chose the classic ‘Can’t help falling in love’ by Elvis. One of the challenges was rolling, arpeggiating, the chords, it sometimes works and sometimes not so well…

PS sorry for the horrible string screech at the beginning, I usually prefer unwound G-string but the string slot width on this uke is a bit narrow. This was the best out of 5 attempts of recording (I’m trying to set a limit) so went with this one.

@akukes73 – Very beautifully played, Ash! I too, struggle with getting the roll strum clean each time. Probably why I don’t use it much 😅

I thought you played it extremely well. The only thing I might suggest is defining the trickier rhythms a little more clearly, like the first bar (which repeats) in the Bridge. Try clapping and counting that rhythm out loud while tapping your foot along to a click. That’s a great way to practice.

Here’s my submission for July – I like how La Gitanita works on a low G. I gave myself another challenge this month, in addition to being outside in a different town. As a recovering but often-lapsing Perfectionist, I decided that one take and one take only would have to do for this recording – normally I’m trying 20 or 25 times to get something without any hiccups. So here it is, hiccups and all.

@grannieannie – Fingerpicking sounded awesome, Annie! There is one area I would work on and that is the rasgeuado strum.

The secret to the rasgueado strum is all about finger independence. You start with your fingers curled in, then flick them out one at a time like this: pinky, ring, middle, index, (and optionally) thumb. Each finger does its own little strum, and that’s what makes it sound like you’re squeezing 4 or 5 strums into one quick move!

Check out Matt’s lesson on it from the Next Level Strumming Course. It’ll be Module 4, Unit 1. He’s much better at the technique than I am and gives some great insights into performing it.

    Hi Ukulele Friends!

I really wanted to try RC101’s Severance Theme this month. Such a cool song and great uke arrangment. Here’s my best attempt:

@brettboy – Your performance pleases the board. You’ve earned a celebratory melon bar experience!

Everything about that melon bar looks pretty great! 😂 The premise of that show seems interesting. Also for some reason the site unsubscribed me from this thread…

Really looking forward to catching up on the entries so far and hopefully getting my own recorded this weekend! I changed songs mid-challenge but I’ll still post what progress I made on HOTRS. Please enjoy this stream-of-consciousness post. 😅
