    Hello again!

    So, after some ado, I was finally able to throw together this little video. Still not sure if I am at all doing any of it right, but I’m figuring it out slowly. Hopefully better videos (of me playing, not talking, ugh) to come. Thank you again!

    I forgot to mention that the version of Drunken Sailor I play I think is a lesson Matt Dahlberg from the site taught, then played while on a boat. I may have imagined that. I may be delusional. Anyway, enjoy this incredibly awkward video (even though likely everyone else has moved on, lol).

    Oh yeah, and I messed up playing… a lot, but it still sounded cool. Bonus! πŸ˜€

    Also, correcting the video: Flight Centurion Tenor Electric Ukulele

    @annemarie, thank you! I feel even more reassured in my choice now, even though I definitely was considering the other ones. Hahaha I am going to shred that thing like an extra sharp cheddar, man! Well, hopefully eventually I will. πŸ˜…

    @tessiert
    , hahaha, thank you! My excitement is real. I am just still so honored and humbled and overwhelmed to have won, because there are so many talented people on this site (even though I know it’s a random draw) but also I was having an extremely hard week and also could never afford to get an instrument like that. So, TMI as usual, but it’s just pretty special. πŸ˜‚

    @pysanky
    , thank you so much! It’s just a stunning instrument, I hope one day to really do it justice with my playing. 😁

    So excited for the next challenge as well! There are two songs that are especially intriguing. Thank you, @Andrew, for creating this site, such inspiring compositions and detailed lessons, and the opportunities to learn and share in this community! Also, the neat ‘n’ sweet prizes!

    Also, you’re the Bob Ross of ukulele.

    Okay, not sure if my replies showed up. I’ll delete any duplicates later if I posted more than one. πŸ˜…

    Edit: Never mind, I got it! Much to everyone’s chagrin… πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

    @lbilkie, thank you kindly!! I eventually decided to pick this one:

    The Flight Centurion Gold Top Tenor Electric Uke.

    Not sure if that image will work. It was the last one listed on page one of this thread. A real beaut! πŸ˜‰

    @dianna and @lynnzo, thank you kindly! Now I just have to try to match my skills to suit such a beautiful instrument. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜³πŸ˜…

    @lhamilton thank you kindly! They really are beautiful! So excited to give one a whirligig, because I’ve never played an electric uke before! πŸ˜€

    @mark65536
    , thank you so much! Hahaha, you will, maybe even in the next one if time allows. LOL.

    Oh, em, gee! Baaaaaaah! Thank you so, so, SO much!! I’m so excited! This text does not convey how excited I am. I was in the grocery store when I saw the email and felt like I was going to faint and cry, but thankfully I did neither, LOL. I just never win anything ever. And I can’t convey how happy, grateful, honored, and gobsmacked I am. Thank you, Andrew! πŸ˜€ :’D

    I just want to say that everyone did such an incredible, incredible job that I feel almost guilty for winning, LOL. But……………………………………………….I still accept the win, in this too-over-the-top fashion.

    Thank you again!!!!!!!!!!! πŸ˜€

    @lhamilton, that whistling was incredible! You’re like a majestical bird that’s alighted on these forums from another, more beautiful dimension. I mean that in the best way, LOL. That seriously was mind-blowing, though. Never heard anything quite like that or really heard anyone who whistled quite so pristinely.

    Side note, is it necessary to say that you’re a premium member? If so, I AM that, so please note that for your record books. Thank you and good day! πŸ˜€

    @surferjay, thank you kindly for that! That was definitely my best take of the ones I tried while recording. I just have a real problem, once I hit the “record” button, that’s when my performance anxiety flairs up beyond belief and I can’t play as well because I’m thinking about it too much. So, I feel like the recordings are not necessarily the best representation of how I play the songs. Not that I don’t make mistakes while playing off-camera. Not sure if that makes sense. It’s this issue I’m trying to get over when playing in front of other people, both when recording and in person.

    But then I am relatively new to the uke and brand new to recording songs, so this all makes sense. Like the songs I shared here are my first recordings that I’ve shared with anyone. :O But hopefully sharing more will help me start to get over this anxiety I have when playing for others.

    Annnnyyywwaaayyy, thank you for the encouragement! I’m so glad I decided to join in here. Hoping to maintain the patience and discipline and focus enough to improve my skills through this site! LOL.

    Just want to say again that the other entries so far are incredible! My favorite is @deadbuggy because I dream of being B.A. enough to play a rock guitar like that. I just want to be cool, man! Okay, bye! LOL.

    All the Aura Lee entries are lovely, and in particular @lyndallk and @madz_about_uke ‘s cover of “Crazy” are stunning.

    Oh, and to also play Bach’s Toccata and Fugue as @Andrew does on the site. That is my hashtag life goal. Okay, really bye…

    @Andrew, thank you so much for that! I’ll defs have to look that up.

    Well, I found this one. The other ones were offensive to the ears. This one sounds “realistic”:

    https://www.musicca.com/metronome

    @robinboyd
    , you are correct about that! That seems like more of an existential issue. How much should anyone strive for perfection? I feel like if you never strive for it, you won’t ever even get close. But, you also can’t be afraid to make mistakes. I’m certainly not afraid of that, most of what I make are mistakes. πŸ˜‰ LOL

    Well, actually that may not be true. I think I do get frustrated at my inability to reach perfection.

    @Andrew, thank you so much for your feedback! Step one for me: Get a metronome. 😁 That is probs the thing I have the most trouble with, is timing. Also, I’m realizing I have to get over the anxiety of hitting the “record” button.

    This may be a dumb question, but even if my video has mistakes and such, and needs some improvements, does it still count as an entry in the contest? Also asking that for future reference, because I hope to continue joining in on these challenges! So much fun and such a great motivator for trying to learn and polish a complete song! Another thing I have trouble with.

    Anyway, thank you!! πŸ™‚

    Hello everyone!

    Here is my entry for this contest, my take on “Aura Lee.” I hope that it’s okay and that my approach is okay.

    Just want to say that some of the entries so far are so amazing! So many talented people on this site. Thank you for sharing. 😊

    This recording took about 200,000,000 tries–and even though this is the best one–there are still mistakes.

    Thank you for listening!

    Also, VERY excited to see that there is a lesson for this song on this site and other clawhammer songs and lessons! πŸ˜€ Definitely going to look at that. It seems like I know the song, but I’d say 1 times out of 10 it goes as well as this recording.

    Sorry to double post, but that seemed relevant to say. πŸ˜€ So excited to dig into all the songs and lessons here!
