    Hello guys!!! this is my last progress update for this month it was really fun to try out Travis picking technique this method of practising the concept first and then going to the application was really effective actually, thrilled and feel very motivated to see the progress it brought this month…..

    Little sad could not complete the song finger picking etude number 5 for the challenge but overall I am very happy, satisfied and motivated by progress and the kind words and feedback by @andrew and @gi_gi_

    will keep working on the song even after the challenge till it’s perfected!!!!!

    @bibilele, thank you, I enjoyed January Mood-so catchy I want to learn it! It would make a great duet, with one player playing the chords, and the other doing the melody part.

    @sarrafina
    , great arrangement, and well played I’m impressed!
    Here is my notation and tabs for Heavenly Light.

    Thanks, Andrew.

    I am fairly happy with the second half of the recording. The rhythm feels right to me there, but the first part is choppy and scattered. I’m hoping to record again since I’ve had a bit more time to be comfortable with it.

    It has been fun working on this. And it gave me a chance to play on my new ukulele.

    I designed the arrangement to be playable on high G and did the score for that but definitely prefer the low G for it. It’s interesting that the key is F but it’s Gm — so I’m presuming it’s in a specific scale mode but not sure which.

    @gi_gi_, thank you so much! Your encouragement and kind words mean a lot. That’s crazy your journey with singing. How did you learn to sing that well, just on your own using Internetube videos (YouTube)? 😂 I love what you said about being famous, couldn’t agree more. 😂 Thank you for your kind words again and it’s so nice you commented on everyone’s entries! After this month I’m going to go back and look through certain gems in this thread that I missed because I only got to see some of the entries.

    @leb397
    , thank you so much! I can’t say how much it pleases me that you say that it sounded like a harp because that is exactly what I hoped it would sound like, no joke. 😅 I always wanted to play the harp, so there are times with uke that I try to make it sound as harp-like as possible. Your entry was very lovely, those techniques are so hard and ya nailed it! To me, strumming and chucking and all those things are way more challenging than fingerpicking, but some of that at least is just experience related. You did really great with it though! And thank you again for your kind words. 😊💕

    @nelsonlin2021
    , ha, we should definitely try to coin the term Mattxim for Matt’s various maxims/sayings and also Drewism (truism) for Andrew’s. 😂😅

    All the entries I’ve seen this month are amazing, can’t wait to see the ones I missed! This month I’ve been moving, lost power for three days, and my car broke down … twice. 😅 I’m looking forward to next month hopefully being calmer. 😂😅😳😥😭😅 Still this challenge was super fun, thank you, Andrew especially but everyone for doing such great work and being so encouraging! 😊

    Great performances all around. They really drew me in…I think I caught them all this month. I really like the variety of things people are working on and the original compositions/arrangements are amazing. You inspire me to work hard and to try new things.

    As for my progress, I had a bit of a setback with arthritis in my left hand. I posted a mid-month update, and couldn’t really play for a couple of weeks after that. I have to be careful not to push too hard, but sometimes it’s hard to know where the line is, so I over do it. Anyway, I think I’m on the mend and felt good enough today to give it another try, which is posted below. No better or worse than the last effort, but I am happy to be able to play it again.

    And here is the last recording of the Farewell to Music (Farewell!) this month. A bit smoother especially at the start and I’ve gotten in some dynamics.

    Hello everyone,
    I enjoy watching the results of your monthly efforts. You are all great!

    My goal was to learn Andrew’s arrangement of Don’t Stop Believin’. I still have a lot of work to do, especially I want to remove the buzz due to imprecise fingering. But I hope I managed to keep up the pace for the most part.

    Hello Andrew et al:

    The January Challenge was just that …Challenging.
    Goals:
    – Become familiar with RC101 facilities.
    – learn two lesson tunes
    – get to know the community

    The path was steep. The selected tunes were a stretch for me. Thankfully, the video instruction was detailed and thorough. SoundSlice was helpful by slowing the samples down.
    Many hours of daily practice and repetition caused a mid-month left hand cramp that lasted for 5 days. Probably the result of some of the fret reaches that I was not accustomed to.

    I am impressed by the quality of musicianship that RC101 participants possess. Truly a dedicated group of ukulele players who want to grow and improve their skills. Awesome.

    I look forward to getting to know you all better and hearing what you have to offer.
    I look forward to letting Fur Elise and Freight Train take a rest. I will revisit in the future.

    Peace
