    @lhamilton, that was very magical! Love to hear some clawhammer up in here!! That sounded so lovely and fun! 😊

    @grannieannie
    , that’s really crazy! I have heard of that. I think I remember Matt mentioning that’s something that can happen with time for those who play by ear. Or did you always have that issue? I can see how that would be so frustrating. I think it’s okay that you just write down what you hear; it doesn’t have to be in a specific key if you’re just playing by yourself. My brother also loves to do that – he has created some tunes about daily living with his 4 kids that are quite spectacular, such as the hit, “It’s Bathing Time!” that he would sing to his kids. 😂😂 I think that’s beautiful and interesting that people have that “internal musical voice” that can create tunes that way. 😊

    So, my recording struggle has continued, including for this month’s challenge. I heard from a few people that the little piano sample I recorded on my phone (that I posted in Showcase Your Playing here) still sounds really quiet. I did a bit of research and decided that I will invest in an audio interface that will help with recording both the piano and ukulele, I hope. I still will create a video with the tabs on screen for this challenge and will attempt to get the best audio I can with what I have, because not sure the audio interface will get here in time to use that. That’s okay, though, it’ll be good going forward if it works out! 😊

    Thanks, @The_Bumble_Bard! Clawhammer is definitely fun to play.

    @jlchow – Thanks for uploading it to YT 🙂

    Have you tried fingerpicking using more than one finger? For this tune, since it’s a pretty challenging one to play, I’d recommend using at least a 3 finger approach. If you try this approach, make sure to keep your right-hand in a claw-like shape, instead of open as you’re doing now.

    Other than that, rhythm/timing and tone sounds great! Keep up the great work!

    This was interesting, taking a little riff all the way through to a finished song, such as it is – I’ve always had great appreciation for those who compose their own music, and now the admiration is even greater! I was challenged by someone (that would be my hubby) to write lyrics about fog, so of course I had to try. But I found it difficult to sing at the same time as concentrating on the fingering, so I added the singing at the end, with a simpler version of the tune along with a photo montage of what my world looks like at this time of year.

    @grannieannie – Is this your first composition? It’s incredibly sophisticated, deep, and reflective. Impressive writing Annie!

    Hi everyone!

    Here’s my result.
    The original version was about 100 beats per minute, my version is 70, so significantly slower.

    Lead uke – there were double stop, slides, and pull-offs.
    Rhythm uke – there were staccato eighth notes off-beat. I don’t know how good they work…
    C-Recorder – the original key of F-sharp minor in the verse and F-sharp major in the chorus wasn’t very comfortable, so I transposed everything to E minor / E major.

    Have a nice day! 🙂

    As announced, I worked on learning an arrangement of the second movement of Vivaldi’ winter concerto, a favorite melody of mine which I always thought should lend itself quite well to the Ukulele. Incidentally I found a nice arrangement by a German guy called Wilfried Welti and started learning it a few weeks ago, before Matt released his own version just recently. So here’s my recording of Wilfried’s arrangement.

    Wilfried’s version is in G major and goes up to the ninth fret, while Matt’s version is in C major, five half steps higher, and goes all the way up to the fourteenth fret. So while Wilfried’s version might be a little more beginner friendly, and also more doable on a soprano (he actually does play it on a soprano, see the link to his version in the description of my video), Matt’s version is a little closer to the original. That’s in E flat major, so yet another three half steps higher than Matt’s arrangement.

    Here is my attempt at the 3 finger tremolo from Matt’s lesson at RC101. I started at 60 bpm and got to 105 bpm – I don’t know what the recording is at but hopefully not far off. I haven’t quite got the tremolo sound, maybe it needs to be a little faster or maybe because I don’t use nails or both – anyway I am relatively happy with the final product, though obviously still room for a lot of improvement and a good one to keep practicing.

    I found on YouTube an arrangement of Malagueña by Jeff Peterson (thanks! – the tabs can be downloaded in case anyone is interested).

    The arrangement also allowed me to practice the Rasgueado strum, so I could build on the November challenge – hopefully some improvement.

    Amazing and inspiring entries from everyone as usual!

    Lovely submissions everyone! @grannieannie beautifully sophisticated composition as Andrew said! Love some of your peculiar choices.

    @katazumiri
    that was so cool 🙂

    I enjoyed going through the harmonics course from beginning to end and capping it with Amazing Grace. I decided to learn and record both versions as I felt they complimented each other. Started with Evan’s then with yours Andrew, as I felt the F chord on measure 13 provided a nice variation/touch as a start to the ending.

    Hello RC101,

    Post#2 on my WIP performance on The Aching Waltz (Andrew’s Version). Hope I get time to record another take before month end. Cheers!
