ParticipantHappy New Year, Everyone! You are all so inspiring!
For this month’s challenge:
1) Execution: I will be working on using a slide.
2) Application: The song selection is “Amazing Grace”, arranged for slide ukulele by Fred Sokolow.
3) Evaluation: Video post of performance. 🙂

Participanthere is the progress on clocks so far for this month’s challenge any tip how to remove the pauses ??

AndrewKeymaster@malku2603 – Try looping the transition sections. For ex, measure 4 to 1. That’ll give you targeted practice at switching between chords faster.

ParticipantSo here is my very basic first week’s progress video. In my defence, we had family here till the fifth so my practice was pretty limited. I think my speed on the plucked strum is increasing a bit though this is still a worry. I have a lot more to do on the transitions. And I have had to change one fingering choice which reduces the number of theoretically ringing strings.

Weekly Report 1
It’s coming along, slow and steady. Well, too slowly and kind of unsteadily lol.
—Have learned to tune, hold, and pluck my u-bass.
—Am learning (from Ukulele Wales) to fret so that my whole hand is used, even if I’m just pressing one string, and am about a quarter of the way through learning the notes. I hope to join a uke group soon and at least be able to play along and pluck notes using their chord charts.
—Have just started learning Stephen’s “Come Together” and “3 U-Bass Lines.” I won’t be able to finish both; just wanted to get a taste of each before deciding which one to complete. “Come Together” has kind of a tricky number of continual small changes which will be hard to memorize, so I’ll likely do “3 Lines.”
Sure is fun playing the start of ”Come Together,” though.
Next week’s aim: finish learning notes, decide on song, be at least a quarter of the way through song.

katazumiriParticipantHappy New Year!
1) Implementation – I’m working on song “La Camisa Negra” by Juanes.
2) Application – I will be partially guided by this sheet music from MuseScore ( https://musescore.com/user/29889857/scores/10957468 ). The piece is in F# minor 😅 … I’m not sure I want to stay here
3) Evaluation – I’ll post a video of me playing the song before the deadline 🙂January 9, 2026 at 11:11 pm #79558rgillof
ParticipantHappy New Year to everyone. Typical for me with this type of challenge, it took awhile to decide what to work on.
Execution- I would like to improve the picado technique. My goal is to accurately alternate fingers throughout a piece. I will review the picado technique as taught in the La Gitanita lesson.
Application – I will learn and memorize Arabian Nights, written by Andrew, played picado.
Evaluation – As Andrew suggests, I will evaluate my playing on a weekly basis. This should allow enough progress throughout a week (hopefully) to be evaluated.

anyon1ParticipantHappy New Year!
Execution: I would like to learn to play I’ll Fly Away
Application: I found an arrangement by Ken Middleton in which the thumb plays a steady drone note in the background which I enjoy (not sure if that technique has a certain name?), so I will work on this arrangement throughout the month.
Evaluation: By the end of the month, I will post a video of me playing in time (if not up to speed…)

The_Bumble_BardParticipantThank you so much for giving me a little shout out in the newsletter! I was so honored by that and by the kind words by you, @Andrew. That was so nice! Thank you! 🙂
I decided I wanted to include a minor theme in between the first and second themes, which are both major and similar-sounding themes. I ended up just labeling these theme 1, 2, and 3. 🙂 They are excerpts from the song, but I think it all came together really well. I also borrowed transitions from different parts of the song to try to blend the different themes together, but although the transitions may not be in chronological order, the themes are. There’s a lot missing in between the themes, but I think this works pretty well as a stand-alone version of the song. Hopefully that all makes sense. 😂
I’m really hoping I can record the song this weekend, but we’ll see! There’s still time (for once), but I’m eager to continue this. 🙂
I’m attaching the updated tabs to this post (hopefully, lol)! It’s now 1.5 pages. Also, I figured out you can export a file from Guitar Pro as a .png and it works to share it here (without having to awkwardly take screenshots and paste them together). Really excited to record this and hopefully it comes together well! Also really excited to see everyone else’s projects!! 🙂
Edit: One other thing I just remembered was in one measure I really pushed my 12-fret, soprano, high g ukulele FAR beyond its limits by including a chord that was 0 15 17 18. 😂 Because I physically can’t do that on the uke I like to play, I am trying to find creative ways around that, which are, in my opinion, pretty hilarious. You’ll see. 😂

lhamiltonParticipantHi,
I’m making good progress on both clawhammer pieces. I’ve memorized them and am working on smoothing and speeding up my playing.

diannaParticipantExecution: It took a while to decide what direction to go in…..lots of Uke projects on the burner….and so many things I want to try from RockClass101……but I think I am settling on the Harmonics Course, because I like to get thru at least 1 course in a year.
Application: I have begun working my way through the course and almost decided against it, because I wasn’t having much luck…..but I have had a bit of a breakthrough, and feeling like this is possible…..I have to admit this is a whole new world. Though I have had minimal experience with natural harmonics, I have never tried artificial or tapping ….so there is a steep learning curve.
Evaluation: Hope to be able to use what I have learned and play/post the capstone piece, “Amazing Grace”. At this time I am working on the Etude for Artificial Harmonics to improve my technique. If I don’t get to ‘Amazing Grace’….I will post the Etude.
Good-luck everybody!
PS: Though I’m sorry to see that we will not be getting feedback, I agree with @grannieannie that @Andrew has created a goldmine for Uke players……

akukes73ParticipantHappy New Year!
If I have time this month my plans are:
Execution – learn to play a little faster (but with accuracy) – with this longer term goal in mind I will start off with the triplet tremolo
Application – go through Matt’s mini lesson on the 3 finger tremolo.
Evaluation – use a metronome to increase speed and then apply to Malagueña (a shorter version than Evan’s – I need several months to learn that!) and then post my progress at the end of the month.
