    Hi All –

    This month I learned Kemp’s Jig and as mentioned in my first post, I’ve also started messing around with the recorder. I chose this song because I thought it suited the combo of uke and recorder. I’ve recorded once with Low G uke and then again with the tenor recorder, then merged the two videos together. I figured out I had to lower the volume on the recorder track so that the uke was the main star, but you can still hear the recorder gently accompanying on theme 1 and theme 3. This was fun. Now to go back and get caught up with seeing what everyone has done this month!

    I am happy with how far I progressed over the two weeks and there is still a long way to go…oh, come all ye faithful. I am excited to be practicing again and having the challenge has made me practice more. I would like to see more fluidity in the piece, more fluency with the bar chords and of course, in time, speed. (This was played at approx 63% speed… with some variability!)

    I am out camping with my teenage grandson this weekend hence a bit of background noise. Thank you!

    Nat, the Kemps Jig is beautiful and for me, a new player, very inspiring. The recorder backing adds a lovely complement. This is a piece I will look at! Thank you

    @katazumiri – that was super cool! Everything sounded so nice together. The recorder was a nice add. I did my submission with a tenor recorder and I intended to add a track with soprano recorder also to give a more distinct difference in tone. I was tired of fiddling with video editing at that point though, so will save that for another time. Nice job and great video work too!

    @nat-uke – That was awesome, Natalie! Great playing on both instruments 🙂

    – What an excellent first post, Wendy! You played it beautifully, with great feel and tone. From here, the main things I’d suggest are memorizing the piece so you can focus 100% on your playing, and practicing along with a metronome. That’s always a great way to push yourself toward a steady tempo throughout.

    That said, this song does sound nice with a slightly loose feel, so don’t feel like it has to be perfectly locked in. You can add a bit of rubato to taste.

    @malku2603
    – Your hard work paid off, you rocked it! 👏

    @milky1312
    – You are so close! I’m looking forward to hearing the final take tomorrow 🙂

    It is inspiring to listen to everyone’s submissions, knowing the dedication it takes. Good job all.

    Here is my submission of Arabian Nights. The “finger frenzy” was the most challenging part of the piece. Because I was in over my head on this one, the submission is only at 50% speed and so it doesn’t have any of the intended zip to it. I actually am a bit better at it at about 60% speed, but the closest available backing track was 50%, so that is what I used. Practicing this piece gave me plenty of practice using the picado technique, which was my main reason for choosing this song.

    Hello all!

    This month I worked on the Travis picking technique with Fingerpicking Etude no. 5 on the low G ukulele and Fingerpicking Etude no. 26 on the baritone uke.

    Very fun technique!

    @heike_uke – I’m not hearing/seeing anything that needs fixing, other than a brief pause when moving up the neck to that first higher-voiced chord. Try looping that section at a very slow tempo to build the muscle memory needed to make the jump cleanly and in time, without the pause.

    Hi Friends! This month, I chose to work on playing Amazing Grace using a slide. I’ve wanted to learn this song for a long time, and was so pleased to find this arrangement by Fred Sokolow for slide ukulele, using open G tuning. I’ve enjoyed all of your submissions…such talent around here! 🙂

    My final update so far on Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. This song I started to learn on December challenge of rockclass101 in 2021 but could not complete. So this time I tried my best to play this song with my heart.

    Hi All!

    I’ve enjoyed the variety of submissions this month. Great work, everyone!

    I chose to work on I’ll Fly Away. I like the sound of the droning G string in the background and wanted a song to practice it (not sure if there is a specific name for that technique). I didn’t get it quite up to the speed I wanted, but it’s the 31st, and I had to post it!
