    Hi Rock Class 101 Community!

I am beyond humbled to say that there has now been over 5,000+ members participating in our challenges! AMAZING! If you’ve sat on the sidelines, please join us for this month’s challenge! Challenges are a fun way to stay motivated and a great way to meet fellow ukulele players who are passionate about learning and becoming better players. And I offer feedback on ALL submissions! 🙂

Please watch the video above and read the instructions below carefully for all the details on this month’s challenge.

    _______________

    GROUND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION:

As musicians, one of the best things we can do is revisit pieces we’ve learned in the past, as it gives us the opportunity to analyze where we were versus where we are. For this month’s challenge, you can pick any song you’ve previously learned from RockClass101.com.

    1. You must create two posts. In Post 1, let us know which song you’re working on and what you’re focusing on improving. If you still have your old recording, please share that as well. Post 1 has to be submitted by Saturday, March 15th.

    2. In Post 2, share your results! This will be your new take, which can be either an audio or video recording. Post 2 must be submitted by Monday, March 31st, 11:59pm ET.

EXCEPTION: If you’ve never learned a song from Rock Class 101 or participated in our monthly challenges, please join us this month! Just mention in your first post that it’s your first time.

The upload feature on the site only supports photos. Members must host their own files. Creating an account is easy and free. Here are the links to create an account:

    YouTube (For Video) – https://www.youtube.com/create_channel

    SoundCloud (For Audio) – https://soundcloud.com/signin

** If you need assistance with how to record yourself check out our FREE course on recording audio/video and/or private message me and I will be happy to help you out. **

    3. Submit individually, as a reply, IN THIS POST.

    4. Feel free to submit more than one song for the challenge, but additional songs will not count as extra entries into the raffle for the prize.

    5. Have fun and don’t be intimidated by this challenge!!! Use this challenge to help you set goals and complete them by a deadline. You can also use this as an opportunity to chat with your fellow Rock Class 101 members and share tips or tricks on this challenge that you think are useful.

    6. You must perform the entire piece to receive an entry into the prize raffle. Performance must be submitted by the deadline listed (in #1) above to gain an entry in the raffle, as well as to receive feedback.

    * Note: In my opinion, it is better to show progress versus perfection with these challenges. Remember we are all here to support you no matter what your current playing level is.

Participation Goal: 35 Rock Class 101 Member Participant Videos/MP3 posted.

LOL. We’re going for the “golden ticket” again! ❤️

The song selection was an easy choice for me. I chose the very first song I posted on RC101 (08/2023) – “Fields of Gold”.

Improvement goals – better barre chords, clearer notes ringing out, more “fluid” / “flow”

I haven’t played the song since I posted originally. So it will be a little like learning all over again, but hopefully with a nicer result. 👍

Oh my, I am flippin’ pumped for this challenge! I really love this idear a lot!! 🥰

I also find it kind of funny that I accidentally did this exact thing for February with Aura Lee. That was the first RC101 song I learned, but that’s not what I’m doing for this challenge.

This month I think I’ll revisit Steven’s arr. of Lacrimosa (on my electric uke that I won from here)! 😁😯

I hope I can improve how fluently I play it and remove the pauses that I struggled with the first time I played it. And add more dynamics than the first time. I feel like I should be able to do those things now with a lot more experience through learning songs here. 😊

    Here’s my original take:

I’m so excited! I’ve been wanting to revisit this song anyway, but what a great excuse!

GOLDEN TICKET from Drewmpa Loompa Town, here we come!! 😉😂

    Hi,

This month I’d like to work on Pineapple Uke Blues. I’ve really enjoyed it but noticed that I’ve forgotten how to play it. I’d like to be able to do it more fluently and maybe remember how to play it for a while longer.

@andrew I’m thinking of relearning Mika’s 4/4 Waltz, which is so beautiful. I want to play with a low G. It sounds good to me. My 2024 entry was with a high G. Can I use the low G?

    @leb397 – I’d use high G, it’ll sound a little wonky with low.

I’m in the worst situation here – I have already submitted something for the challenges, but I’ve got very little to choose from. It’s probably going to be “The Path of the Wind”, but I reserve the right to change my mind. I’ve just started music production studies, so I’m going to make this a ukulele production challenge! I want to record myself in a studio at school on a proper microphone, with monitors, and process the recording in some way in Ableton. And I’m not going to do it 3 hours before the deadline 😛

Well, since the only thing I have posted here is Aura Lee, which I posted today for the February challenge, I will probably work on that unless I come up with a better idea. Things to improve are tone and consistency and all the stuff you guys are going to tell me needs improving 🙂

I’ve been focusing lately on memorizing a repertoire. I think I’ll add Swan Lake to list. So, in addition to playing more fluidly, I hope to have it committed to memory by the end of the month. Here is my original take from las year,
