    Good effort everybody, so many nice performances!

    Finally did the redo.
    Never perfect, often too fast. So many thoughts rush through my head when I play slower 😀
    I tried till my fingers hurt, but this song is one I will always practice on my uke.

    With kind regards,
    Jayton

    (Do not know if I double posted, had some issues with editing and resubmitting)

    I’m a premium member.

    For this month’s challenge, I revisited “Dream A Little Dream of Me.” My goals were to improve chord transitions and speed.

    Usually, I post one take, but I could not get through this without sobbing, so I had to splice together two different recordings. My dog Verity, who often appeared on my recordings for the challenges, died last night. I thought about skipping this month but was reminded how much she loved the ukulele. Verity did not care if I played a wrong note or was off on the timing; it was all beautiful to her ears. When she was stressed out by noise, I played for her, which seemed to calm her. She liked to place her head against my thigh, with the butt of the uke almost resting on her head. Maybe the Island vibes were the strongest there.

    Bonus Video: I played the slowest version of Sponge Bob Square Pants this morning as a warm-up. It is the last song I played for her. The visuals are from a challenge we did last year. I love how she comes in to see what’s up and then settles in for the show.

    Here is my own arrangemernt of Blackbird.

    I have worked on the arrangement and made it cleaner – not my playing mind you!

    Just barely getting this in on time. Everyone has done so amazing this month, so well done to all! I went with Lacrimosa and I was really hoping that a lot of the parts that i found difficult to play before would be much easier! Sadly, it was not lol. All the things I struggled with before I struggled with again! I am not sure how much better this is, but I certainly did work at it a lot! lol.
    I think it goes without saying, but please do not enter me into the drawing 🙂
    Thank you again to everyone for all the support. Love this group, you guys are the best!

    @potter Thank you for the heartfelt rendition of “Dream A Little Dream of Me”. So sorry that Verity is no longer with you.

    Because this version is with a singer, I play the chord melody (duet with her) only the first time. Then I drop back to strumming chords as accompaniment, with a couple of fills. We added variations both for ukulele and voice before the final duet. Added a little intro and a 6/9 chord to finish.

    this is kinda raw… I let too many things take priority and didnt leave myself enough time. My fault but learned the lesson. I have been working on my holding and more memorizing, I will have to continue working on this. I enjoy it and wish to do it justice. I have. a lot to work on but thats how I should hopefully get better.

    Well, here is my final submission.
    I have the before and after versions linked.
    For the second one, I was able to play it from memory instead of from the sheet music.

    Wow, Blackbird is my favorite song to play. It sounded great. Do you have tabs for your arrangement?

    Here’s everyone on page 10 that I hadn’t gotten to yet.

    @karenj
    – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂

    @ldarrow
    – Wow! You’re playing it so well it looks and sound effortless now! Way to go Linda!

    @maryjanew
    – It’s really cool to watch your practice takes and compare it to your performance. It’s a wonderful way to see where you started at versus ended at. And boy, you’ve got it sounding great! I think you smashed your goal of playing with feel, and you nailed the sweet, sorrow feeling of the tune. Beautifully done, MJ!

    @The_Bumble_Bard
    – Your second point, I had a convo w/ Evan recently about a song we were working on. As you know, he’s teaching the lessons for his arr.’s now, and in one of the lessons, when I was reviewing it, I asked him why he taught a couple sections differently than the tab. He mentioned it was a mistake and that when he performs, he doesn’t think, he just plays. I thought you’d find that interesting.

    And your first point, I think you should play it your way. It’s okay to adapt pieces or techniques to fit your playing style.

    And you played it wonderfully! I loved it!

    Here’s everyone on page 11.

    @suekulele
    – That was beautifully played Sue! Your pacing is much improved, as is, chord and note clarity. And I saw your note about the barre chords, they don’t look like they are a problem anymore!

    Truly impressive work. I have to say, I see how often you post performances and snippets on insta. It’s clear to me that you put a lot of time and effort into your musicianship, and it shows! Everyday you are becoming a better musician and it’s inspiring to see!

    @lynnzo
    – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂

    @dianna
    – Let’s talk about both sections separately. Starting with Melody A: Your feel and sustain is incredible now! It’s a huge diff in how you play that section now vs before. Before was kinda staccato-y and the feel just felt off. Now, I feel like I’m listening to a classical record. Amazing!

    Melody B: This one is tricky to give feedback on because there are so many ways to interpret it as it’s usually played with a lot of liberty. To my ear, you started out strong in the first four bars, but from there, the rhythm feels a little sparse. I’d recommend binging performances on YouTube for ideas on how others approach it. Here’s a great one from Per-Olov Kindgren.

    @richard_siegert
    – I think you smashed your goal of playing it more fluently! You also did a great job of eliminating pauses between transitions, and your fingerpicking skills show a noticeable improvement. I think this was a fantastic take Richard!

    @mysticrick
    – I remember your original take from last year, I really enjoyed it! And your new take? Just as enjoyable! Your fluidity has definitely improved, and the added vocal was lovely. If I were you, I’d add this one to your repertoire when playing for others. I think it’ll bring a lot of joy! 🙂

    @bibilele
    – Here’s my feedback for you 🙂

    @janaq1
    – I think the biggest difference I hear is how much more confidently you’re playing it, and that confidence pays dividends in so many areas: feel, fluidity, tempo, etc. With these types of tunes – challenging classical pieces – the best advice I can offer is to target your practice on the sections where you want to improve. But honestly, I thought your performance was phenomenal and your progress was nothing short of impressive!

    Hi @Andrew,
    Wow, thanks a lot for your detailled feedback! I will check out holding the pick as you auggested. I think maybe I can even do the same thing with the thumb pick. I gave the feeling that I hold it the same way like a regular pick, only that I have a better hold on it. Any yes, my arm is really unrelaxed, up to the shoulders, when I do that technique. Need tons of hours more on that. 🙂
