bethany_guardianiParticipant@Andrew Oh really? Well thanks haha…perhaps I’ve been a little too hard on myself 🙂

bethany_guardianiParticipant@Andrew thanks so much for the quick reply on my earlier question! I have really been enjoying playing Smoke On the Water – you are right that arrangement is a ton of fun! I am getting close to wanting to record, but the run of notes at the end in bars 27 and 28 is giving me some mild heartache haha. I can technically play the notes but it doesn’t sound great – it sounds clunky, stiff, and uncoordinated and nowhere near what it is supposed to sound like. Any tips for nailing that section other than using the tab player and looping it over and over? I really don’t want to turn in something that is sub par for this amazing arrangement!

bethany_guardianiParticipantHi Andrew 🙂 So I already have a question for this one. I’m planning on doing Smoke on the Water. I have a solid body electric uke that I’d like to use (for at least part of it….I might do two ukes..but the idea for what I’m thinking is very much still in my head) and it is strung with a Low G. For the first riff, would you recommend playing it on the low G string as written or keeping it in the higher octave and playing that riff down on the E and A strings?
Thanks in advance. Love the song selections for this month. As much as I’d love to do some Van Halen I don’t think I’m there yet 🙂

I feel so ahead of the game this month! Originally I had planned on doing Beauty and the Beast, but I think that will just take me some time as I need to find a better key to fit my voice and I just haven’t found the time to work on it. It’s so lovely though and I can’t wait to work on it!
So I thought I would work on Animal Crossing in the mean time as I just fell in love with the arrangement and the feel of the piece. It was just the right amount of challenge too – still not perfect by any means but I’m happy with where I got it too 🙂

bethany_guardianiParticipantThank you for the feedback, AJ 🙂 I definitely understand what you mean….until I joined Rock Class 101, I hadn’t really moved around the fretboard that much and I admit I struggle to sometimes land cleanly despite the amount of practice I put in. But that’s a part of the process and I am starting to see signs of improvement, which is encouraging. And the more I work on pieces like this that challenge me, the more I build the coordination and dexterity so I am really motivated to keep going!

This month’s challenge felt a little more in my wheelhouse. Here is my take on L-O-V-E with the vocals included (my favorite part!). There are still some obvious mistakes, but overall happy with where I got this to be and up to tempo. And hopefully some of the graphics I included distract from the mistakes lol.

Here is my February entry – I am sticking with all the beginner recommendations so I did Into the Maze. Such a lovely melody! I really enjoyed learning it even though my execution still leaves something to be desired. One of these days my hand dexterity will improve. I get a little more comfortable as I go along, but there are still some muted strings here and there and places where I don’t land super cleanly when I transition. I may record again another day, but for today, I’ve done so many takes that my hand is utterly exhausted lol.-

bethany_guardianiParticipantThank you, Andrew! One more question for you. I have a video uploaded and ready to go on YouTube but having trouble posting it on here for my entry. Pretty sure I must be doing something wrong though. I added the url using the link feature and then selected to add the link but when I go to submit it I either get an error message or it posts without including the link. I’m sure I’m just being a big ole dummy and doing something wrong, but is there a video or document explaining how to do the entry posts correctly?

bethany_guardianiParticipantHere is my entry for the January Challenge (first time entry!) – I chose to do the beginner piece (which I am trying to commit to for the whole year to build up my foundation). I attempted doing this as a duet though I was kicking myself when recording the second piece that I did not give myself a count on the initial recording to queue myself 😂 I wasn’t entirely sure how to end it for the second video since I would be ending on the strumming so I tried to just mimic the walk down on the C string and still end on an A chord. Still some subtle timing issues here and there, but I hope this works! Also I am a premium member.

bethany_guardianiParticipantQuick question for this challenge – This will be the first challenge I actually submit an entry for and I’ve decided to stick to the beginner level for the year to help build up my foundation (I’m one of those people that’s guilty of jumping in far beyond where their abilities actually lie so I’m trying to correct that!). In any case, I’m a premium member and I was using the sound slice play along to practice ‘our first song’. According to the music sheet, the tempo is at a 100bpm but when I practice with just a metronome vs the sound slice, Andrew’s tempo seems to be much quicker than 100bpm. Am I missing something/doing something wrong here? I like the faster paced tempo available to practice using soundslice, but I when I record, I just plan to have the metronome playing through my headphones so I need to know if I am setting it correctly. Someone please help me here lol!
