Hi, after Andrew noted me about the left-hand technique, it was an eye-opening experience because somehow I was trying to do the technique #1 with the left thumb behind the neck all the time. I’m not sure where I got the wrong information. So, I was going through the correction and am still working on it.
Here is the link to my latest Fingerpicking Etude. Excuse me about the whiny noise in the background, which I didn’t realize my dog was behind the door.
Thanks!

leihaliParticipantOkay, I’ve been following with my application for the past one week. Along with the technique practices, my challenge song of Fingerpicking Etude #1 is coming together EXCEPT I’m having a hard time playing B Melody clean. My problems are:
1) It’s difficult to press down 1st fret on 2nd string with my index finger while pressing other notes.
2) Because my middle finger on the 4th string on 2nd fret keeps touching the 3rd string, C note doesn’t come out well. I wish my fingers were as thin as a stylus. -KayJanuary 9, 2025 at 12:12 am in reply to: Participate in the January 2025 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #65152
leihaliParticipantHappy New Year everyone!
1) Execution: I just completed the 27 units of the Beginner’s Definitive Guide yesterday. However, I noticed I still have struggle playing some techniques and songs when I go back to the previous units. So, I like to review all the techniques and songs as well as learning the Fingerpicking Etude #1 this month. I just bought ukulele last October and found/joined Rock Class 101 right before the Thanksgiving. Although I’m an accomplished classical pianist, this ukulele is the first string instrument I’ve tried in my life. By the end of the month, I like to be more comfortable with all the techniques and play Fingerpicking Etude seamlessly.
2) Application: I will spend 15 min on techniques, 15 min on those songs in beginner’s units, then 20 to 30 min on Fingerpicking Etude everyday.
3) Evaluation: I will record and post my progress of Fingerpicking Etude.December 22, 2024 at 1:27 pm in reply to: Participate in the December 2024 Member Challenge – WIN $3,100 Kanile’a #65006
leihaliParticipantThank you Andrew. Although I totally screwed up the deadline, I did learn a lot with the set goal.
I also have donated to Ukulele Kids Club. What a great cause!December 21, 2024 at 6:04 pm in reply to: Participate in the December 2024 Member Challenge – WIN $3,100 Kanile’a #65000

leihaliParticipantHi, I’m a newbie here, just became a member a week ago and started taking Rock Class 101 lessons. I’ve played the piano for my entire life, and ukulele (any string instrument) is very new to me. But I love the sound of ukulele and want to learn it well.
Although it was a huge hurdle for me, I decided to do the November Member Challenge. Please bear with my very slow Fingerpicking Etude #3.
