@annyuke – 8 of the 10 songs in the Beginner Level can be played on a low G ukulele. At the top of each unit, you’ll see a beige progress bar indicating the tuning used for that song. Some songs work for both high and low G, while others work with just one.

@jedart – Very nicely played Jed! Only thing I’d work on is eliminating the slight pauses/hesitations.
@monika101 – No tips needed, you played it beautifully and with great tone and sustain. I’ll be sharing your performance in our newsletter this Friday 🙂
@ldarrow – Try moving your strumming hand further up the neck so that your thumb doesn’t catch on that ledge where the neck meets the body. Here’s a screenshot of Matt using the technique in that performance. You can see how he positions his thumb to strike the G away from that ledge.
I do have to say, overall you played it beautifully! Was fun to listen to 🙂
Hi Caryn, can you post a video playing that phrase using both approaches? I’ll be better able to help if I can see/hear what’s happening in that part of the piece.

The trick is to come down with enough force to make the string ring at the same volume a plucked note would ring at. Feel free to post a video here. I’d be happy to review it to make sure your form is correct and offer any additional tips I spot when listening/watching.
@joe150 – Very beautifully played Joe! The only thing I’d do, since you’re playing it on a low G, is sub out the single notes that are played with the open G for the 3rd fret on the E string. So that would be the two open Gs in measure 11 and the one in measure 15.

Yes, it is possible. To loop bars in Soundslice, click and drag your mouse across the desired bars in the music notation.

Sorry to hear that happened Brett! This challenge carries on throughout Summer, what if you take off this and next month and post 3 in September. Happy to count each as a separate entry considering the circumstance 🙂

@heike_uke – Very beautifully played 🙂@marianne – Very beautifully played, Marianne! I do have one suggestion for you. Sometimes I hear notes that aren’t sustaining as long as they could. This usually comes down to one of two things: fingering choices or lifting your fingers before the full note value has ended.
For example, in measure 6, if you look at the transition from the first chord to the second, Steven frets the first chord with his middle and ring fingers, leaving his index finger free for the second chord. In your performance, your index finger is used for both chords, which means it has to move from the first to the second, cutting the sustain short.
For the second point, look at the first double stop in measure 7. Steven keeps his fingers planted on that double stop for the entire measure, whereas you lift them after the initial pluck. Again, that shortens the sustain.
