I notice that my 3rd string, C, rings whenever I play a C, 3rd Fret on my 1st string, is this normal and something I need to tame by damping the string? This happens on my tenor and concert, both normal tuning GCEA and also on my low G tenor. Any suggestions?

Well, it’s not your imagination. The same thing happens with the open high A string of my Gitalele. Both the low A and the D string ring after the high A is muted. I don’t have any advice, though.

I notice this when I’m playing scales/melodies. The C string is always more prevalent. I first thought it was how the pick up was installed but guessing it’s the same for everyone.

No advice also outside of that 🙂 I just go with it and use it how it is..

Thanks, I am learning ways to work with it, and as you suggested I guess I’ll just go with it.

Not sure how to directly reply to someone in particular, but thanks robinboyd.

Just put @ in front of their “name”. It tags them or notifies them through the forum you are in. Also make sure you check the box below to ” notify me of followups…”

It’s physics. My understanding is that sound makes waves that we cannot see. Each tone has its own frequency. So when you play C, the string vibrates and with its wave pulls down other waves at the same frequency – i.e. all C strings within range of the wave will sound, even on another ukulele.

I was finding out because something similar happened to me.
I played a G string and heard the same tone from the opposite corner of the room. Mystery! I repeated it and followed the sound. A child’s guitar packed in a cardboard box rang out. 🙂
