ParticipantMaking use of the freedom we were given for this month’s challenge yet once more, other than as per the usual I decided not to pick one of the more advanced or challenging selections, but instead I went for an arrangement that gave me the opportunity to work on different areas than technique, i.e. timing, expression, groove and such. Also once more I used the opportunity to further practice my newly acquired bass playing skills. (Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay was just perfect for all of that.
Please exclude me from the prize drawing this month. Thanks.

shmu88ParticipantHi all!
For this month’s challenge I decided to choose the beautiful song written by our Marianne: Contemplations. Thank you for sharing this with us!

leb397ParticipantI chose Matt’s April lesson on House of the Rising Sun and the strum patterns. Was a challenge to get the rhythm with the ghost notes. Also the quick chord changes. Worked hard trying to get clearer notes… work in progress.
I also used my new hollyland microphone. Love it! Ability to record outside at a distance from my iPad, is huge. Also fact you can start recording from microphone!
I want to comment on others but have to later. Thanks Matt and @Andrew. Louisa

nat-ukeParticipant@otzepeng – love your incorporation of the Severance workstation elements – fun! And nicely played!

nat-ukeParticipantHi All – This month I worked on Matt’s (less-complicated version of) “Drifting” because well, it’s a beautiful song and secondly – I’ve been wanting to play my baritone uke with something new. I appreciate that Matt gave us both versions of this dreamy & relaxing song. I hope to one day be able to get to the more advanced version. In the meantime, I worked on trying to intentionally play “freely” (with rubato – is that the right word?) – not sticking strictly to the precise/firm tempo. I realized that technique can make this type of song so dreamy. Here’s my take in the garden with a visit from the garden pollinators at the end.
I’m still experimenting with my wireless mic. I feel I might have it too close at the end of the strap as it is picking up all my strap noises (and using noise gate when I plopped it in the video editing software wasn’t quite doing what I wanted, so left the audio “au-natural”). I might try a version with the noise-cancelling turned on next time. You can hear how sensitive the mic is – picking up the little bee buzzes. 🙂
p.s. I appreciate those of you who take the time to go throw all the videos and make beautiful comment. I definitely watch most of the submissions, but I’m not able to comment as diligently as some of you all. Love you guys! Well done so far everyone!

leb397Participant@nat-uke very pretty, i think the sound was so clear and I enjoyed the lovely tone of your playing. Just love the mic. The garden is beautiful too. Maybe the beach next time ☺️ thanks for your kind words. Always make you feel good.

otzepengParticipantThank you @nat-uke & @leb397 for the friendly words 🤗 …
I’m glad, that both of you make good experience with your wireless mics. I also used mine and prefer ’em before my build in pickup. As i mentioned – we’re all take profit of the better sound of our recordings and both of you sounded (and played o.c. 😊) great!-

leb397Participant@otzepeng 100% the mic makes such an improvement with ability to go out side. Thanks for all the input and positive comments.

grannieannieParticipantI always look forward to your submissions, @marianne, @otzepeng and @misterbones (among others), so I’m glad you posted early in the month.
@leb397 and @nat-uke, there’s nothing else for it: I have to get one of those mics! You both sounded great, and I love the gardens in the background (especially the little flying critters).
@shmu88 Thanks for the inspiration — your playing of Marianne’s lovely composition helped me decide to work on that piece next. Nice playing! My practice time has been limited this month (and will be even more so next month), but I’ll submit a work in progress this week.

brettboyParticipantHi Ukulele friends! I’ve already done Severance, Morisson’s Jig and Contemplations (all excellent arrangements btw!) and I was having a hard tome choosing another 2025 RC101 release that spoke to me. I thought about the concept lessons. I really need/want to improve my sound recording situation. I usually just use my iPhone. I have a good mic and I’m pretty good with garage band but I’m just really adverse to putting in the effort for some reason. I did watch Matt D’s recording your Uke video and felt a little inspired but I guess I’m just too lazy. Instagram has been going hard lately trying to sell me the “audio wireless mic and ap for my phone” I looked into it but I’m intimidated by the price. Anyone have any thoughts to share about any of that. I appreciate you all. Now, all that is to say, I kinda phoned it in this month with a quick “April Smile.” This was a sweet little melody and fun to play.

marianneParticipant@Shmu88: lovely take! thanks a lot for picking my composition 🙂
@grannieannie look forward to hearing your take!
Beautiful submissions @misterbones, @leb397, @nat-uke and @brettboy.
@brettboy I also record on my phone and rely on GarageBand to export… 😀 will eventually upgrade to a more professional recording setup hahaSeptember 24, 2025 at 7:12 am #76131malku2603
