@anyon1 thank you for your kind remarks on last month. Note I used my LarkM2 mic as did @cyman_t and @gi_gi_ . I was able to fix the sound fading in/out on their app. Really helped with hearing the harmonics. Btw Cayman, loved Loke Lani, very pretty.
Oh and gi_gi look forward to St James. Cool song.

@otzepeng congrats on Andrew posting your entry. Very nicely played.

@joe150 want you to know I can really hear your improvement. Aura Lee is such a pretty song.

@patizon totally agree, who isn’t happy Travis picking anything! Good entry.

@heike_uke that’s a great Etude. I loved playing that. You did it perfectly.

My choice for this month was the Entertainer. As it is a vintage tune, I thought it was appropriate to pick my most vintage sounding instrument to play it on, seemed like a natural fit.

@leb_397 nice job on those harmonics. They’re tricky. I am so regretting choosing St James Infirmary. It’s more difficult than I realized. I still can’t believe Evan was 14 when he played that sooooo well. He’s amazing.

@gi_gi_ I’m always amazed at Evan’s young talent. St James is slow, I’m sure you’ll get through.
I don’t think the harmonics would have come through without the microphone. A work in continued progress.

@joe150: Listening to you I understood something very important for me as a musician. I feel very grateful for both your contributions.

@Andrew: Thanks for the suggestion: I’ve never thought of using the synthetic mode before and it was very helpful: I kept working on that triplet strum and slowly heard and, I hope, understood what I was during wrong both regarding the rhythm and my right hand gesture.

I also noticed 2 things:
1. There are slight differences between the pdf tab and the tab player (bar 9 and 26): at first I was confused with that but in the end it opened my mind to the many ways to choose and play a same tune. Very interesting perspective for later times.
2. For some reason my “natural” way of playing this song is the 1st version I posted. Sticking to the tab requires an effort. Maybe I’ll find out why some day.

Anyway, here is the last version. Feedback for improvement is welcome 🙂

August always has a lot going on and this one is no different. I’ve only got two days to play and submit my entry before I’m off again. So I’ve picked Song 2 – a finger picking Etude from Matt – which I actually played laarnt month when I started the course! Cheating or what…

Your performance was amazing! Crystal clear harmonics, way to go and very impressive playing!

@misterbones – That’s the perfect instrument for this tune! Love the sound it gives and the feel you played it with.

I remember having to practice A TON for this tune! The hardest part, IMO, is keeping the tempo 100% steady. I actually tracked the performance to a click for that reason. So the only advice I can give you, is to continue to practice the piece alongside a click.

@martin_19 – Bravo! 👏 Timing and tempo sounds great! Very well played young man 🙂

@cyman_t – You’ve got it now! Great job! If you ever notice differences in the player vs the tab, that’s because we played the performance slightly differently. We try our best to play it exactly as taught, but sometimes variations happen.

The original way you played the tune sounded great, as does the current take. No right or wrong! Moving forward, I’d play it whichever way you like best 🙂

@lhamilton – Those harmonics are really cool! Very creative idea and a great addition to the arrangement Linda. So this piece is all about sustain and rubato. I think you did very well on sustain. For the feel, I would try a bit slower pacing. Especially in the second theme. I think that helps the music breathe better. Give that a try!

I found doing the harmonics with the 3rd finger pluck a bit of a challenge but, for this piece, it sounded better to me than the thumb-nail version. I loved the sound of the piece on baritone. I’ll play with the speed. For some reason, the second theme just seemed to want to move faster — maybe because it was such fun to play.
